Epidauros expands service with cost-effective solution for blood sampling and shipment
Epidauros expands service capabilities with cost-effective solution for blood sampling and shipment in multicenter clinical trials
Bernried, Germany – May 31, 2007 – Epidauros Biotechnologie AG, the leading Pharmacogenetic Research Organization located in Bernried near Munich, announced today that the company has successfully validated and introduced a new process to cost-effectively obtain large amounts of genomic DNA from clinical blood samples suitable for high quality genotyping based on the PreAnalytiX´ PAXgene™ system.
Clinical genotyping is gaining rapidly growing importance within the pharmaceutical industry. A strong demand exists for cost-effective solutions with respect to sampling, storage and shipment of samples for clinical genotyping. Using blood as source material for DNA extraction mostly requires expensive, time critical shipments on dry ice, which may significantly drive the related logistics costs of such trials.
In order to provide a cost-effective solution, Epidauros has recently validated the PAXgene™ Blood DNA system from PreAnalytiX. These tests have demonstrated that this system is a reliable and valuable tool providing large amounts of high molecular weight DNA with high purity even if samples were stored for up to 14 days at room temperature prior to extraction. DNA extracted from blood using PAXgene™ performed extremely well in sensitive genotyping applications such as real-time PCR, gene copy number determination and sequencing of long PCR products or difficult-to-amplify targets.
